Rafael Capurro was a prominet INSEIT member, had served as a Member of the INSEIT Board. Rafael was the winner of the 2020 Weizenbaum Award. Weizenbaum Award

Rafael Capurro was born in 1945 in Montevideo, Uruguay. He studied humanities in Chile. Licentiate in Philosophy from the Colegio Máximo, Universidad del Salvador (Buenos Aires, Argentina 1971). He also had sStudies in Documentation at the Lehrinstitut für Dokumentation (LID) (Frankfurt am Main 1972-73). He held a Doctorate in philosophy at the University of Düsseldorf (1978). He was an Assistant to the managing director of FIZ Karlsruhe (1980-1985). Professor of Information Science and Information Ethics at the Hochschule der Medien (HdM) (1986-2009). He held a Habilitation in practical philosophy at the University of Stuttgart (1989). He was a Lecturer in Practical Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy, University of Stuttgart (1989-2004). He was the Founder of the International Center for Information Ethics (ICIE) (1999-2018) (archive). He served as a Member of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Techologies (EGE) of the EU Commission (2000-2010; new mandate 2016-). He as a Founding Member of the World Technology Network (WTN). Disinguished Researcher in Information Ethics, School of Information Studies, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA (2010-2012). He also was a Senior Fellow of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Tsukuba, Japan (2015-2017). He was a Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the International Review of Information Ethics (IRIE) (IRIE 2004-2018).

Director of the Steinbeis Transfer Institute Information Ethics (2008-2013). Member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Digital Ethics (IDE), Hochschule der Medien (HdM) (since 2014). Emeritus Member of the Board of Advisors ID4Africa (2014-2018). He was a Member of the Advisory Board for Integrity and Corporate Responsibility Daimler AG (May 2016 – July 2017). Member of the Advisory Board for Digital Transformation of AOK Nordost (2016-2017). He also was a Research Associate in the Department of Information Science, University of Pretoria, South Africa (2020-2022). Member of the Executive Board of Responsible Robotics. Academic Advisor of the Institute of Philosophy & Technology.

Lilian Mitrou

Lilian Mitrou
Professor, University of the Aegean

Dr Lilian Mitrou is a Professor at the University of the Aegean-Greece (Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering) and Visiting Professor at the Athens University of Economics, the University of Piraeus and the Harokopeion University (Postgraduate Studies Program). She teaches information law and data protection law. L. Mitrou holds a PhD in Data Protection (University of Frankfurt-Germany). Her thesis concerned the institutional control of data processing and more specifically the Data Protection Models and Authorities in the Federal Republic of Germany and France. She has served as a Member of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (1999-2003). From 1998 till 2004 she was the national representative in the EC- Committee on the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of Personal Data.

She served and still serves as member of many Committees working on law proposals in the fields of privacy and data protection, communications law, e-government e.tc. During the Greek Presidency of the Council of EU (2014) she has served as Chair of DAPIX (Working Group on Information Exchange and Data Protection) and since June 2016 she is Chair of the Draft Committee on the adaptation of Greek law to the General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679/EU) and the Data Protection Directive (2016/680/EU). Since November 2016 she is member of the Greek National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV). She is President of the Institute for Privacy Law, Data Protection and Technology at the European Public Law Organisation (EPLO).
